EDIS 589: Reading First in Virginia:
Effective Literacy Instruction in K-3 Classrooms

This course is designed to help teachers evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their classroom instruction and design instruction that fits with the principles learned during the summer reading academies
Half of the course requirements are met by attending and participating in a teacher reading academy. The second half of the course requirements will be met by participating in a web class that is scheduled over an 8-week period during the fall (or spring) semester. The course includes participating in on-line forum discussions in response to the readings, analyzing a case study and completing several assignments. The graduate course will be graded on a pass/fail basis.
