This Reading First teacher reading academy is designed for teachers of children in grades K-3 who are learning English as their second (or third) language. The academy is web-based (on-line). Instruction, discussion forums, and interactions with the course instructor follow a weekly format. Dates will be posted for each class upon enrollment. The academy will be completed in eight weeks, with one extra week for orientation at the beginning.

Participants will be expected to contribute to discussions and submit the requested assignments to fulfill the workshop's requirements for the Reading First certificate. The course instructor is a faculty member of the University of Virginia and will interact with participants throughout the academy.
