Q: When are academies open for enrollment?
A: RF teachers and administrators may enroll for an academy of their choice earlier than the rest of the state. Enrollment for RF personnel begins on April 3, 2006. Enrollment for all other teachers in the state opens on April 24, 2006.
Q: Who can attend?
A: Academies are designed for K-3 classroom teachers and K-12 special education teachers, as well as specialists who teach K-3 students (such as reading specialists, Title 1 teachers, speech language therapists, and librarians if their role is instructional with K-3 students).
Q: How do I enroll?
A: Teachers who wish to enroll for a Teacher Reading Academy must first register on the Reading First in Virginia website. At that time, they are eligible to enroll in events as they are open for enrollment for them. RF events are free for teachers in Virginia.
Q: How many academies can a teacher attend?
A: Teachers are encouraged to attend the academy that matches their teaching assignment.
Q: What about coaches?
A: Coaches may attend more than one academy, as they see a need for their school's professional development.
Q: What if I change my mind about my enrollment selection?
A: You can change your own enrollment on the website, using your own Log In and password.
Q: How do I show my school district that I attended this professional development?
A: A certificate is issued once you have attended the academy at 100% attendance and participation. Certificates are not issued for partial attendance.
