Description
Special educators of grades 4-12 may attend a four-day Special Education Academy designed to provide basic information about reading and writing instruction with exceptional learners. Materials from the University of Virginia's TEMPO reading program will be used for the academy. During the morning sessions of day 1 and 4, participants will meet as a whole group to learn current reading theory and research with guest speakers. During all other sessions, smaller groups (maximum 25) and 1 instructor will meet to address classroom instruction and application. Participants will be required to complete homework readings as part of the academy requirements. Upon successful completion of the academy, participants will obtain a certificate of attendance worth 30 contact hours for 100 percent attendance and professional participation in activities. .
