June 2009 Academies

The last two site-based grant-sponsored Reading First Teacher Reading Academies will be taking place in June.

Charlottesville--K-3 Teacher Reading Academy (June 23 - June 26)
Roanoke--Academy for Teachers of Special Education Students, Grades 4 - 12 (June 23 - 26)

Enrollment opens for RF schools on April 4th; public enrollment begins on April 11th.

Please create an account on the website (or log-in to your existing account) to enroll. Information regarding the venue and hotels, etc can be downloaded from the event listing. Each academy can serve 100 teachers. There is no charge for these academies; they are provided by the state's Reading First grant.


Professional development opportunities

We are pleased to announce the dates and sites for our 2008-2009 professional development opportunities. You can download a flier[pdf] here. Please, you have to create an account on the RF website to be able to enroll in academies, institutes, and workshops; all enrollment takes place through this website. We look forward to our next year of working with teachers in the state.


Comprehension Institute in February

Enrollment for the February 7th Comprehension Institute scheduled for Newport News is currently full. Please check back (log-in to your own page and check Events) for spaces as they become available. This institute was designed to help teachers create content reading instruction using multiple levels of text and is a one-day variation of last summer's highly successful Comprehension Institutes. There is no academy attendance prerequisite for this event. Site director is Ms. Michelle Behnke.

Please log-in to your own page and check Events for space availability. This institute was designed to help teachers create content reading instruction using multiple levels of text and is a one-day variation of last summer's highly successful Comprehension Institutes. There is no academy attendance prerequisite for this event. Site director is Ms. Michelle Behnke.
