Coaches and teachers have now logged in to the Reading first School site. Tuesday, March 9th, administrators and LEAs for the schools will be able to create their own home-pages.
Coaches at RF schools will be helping administrators and LEAs with directions for logging in. By decision of the Virginia Department of Education, at this time, Reading First schools may have one administrator, the building principal only, and the grant LEA affiliated with their school register for the password-protected site.
All teachers, administrators, and coaches will use their own home page to register for an academy next week. We are working hard to make the academy registration easy and fast.

For Reading First Schools
This is a reminder that the Virginia Department of Education is requiring that all Reading First schools administer PALS to all of their K-3 students this fall. Even students who met the high benchmark in the spring of 1st grade or fall of 2nd grade must be assessed if they attend a Reading First school. The PALS protocol must be followed and PALS passages must be used for the required oral reading levels. In addition to the oral reading accuracy, words per minute, fluency, and comprehension questions are all required for Reading First schools.
Questions about the PALS assessment can be directed to the PALS office at 1-888-UVA-PALS. Questions about Reading First can be directed to the Reading First office at 1-877-VA-READS
For Reading First school selection
The Reading First school selection is now complete. Seventy-six schools will receive funding to assist their teachers with reading instruction over the next six years. At the heart of Reading First is teacher professional development. Each school has a coach who will be a mentor/model teacher to assist classroom teachers in delivering best practice instruction.
