Welcome to the eLibrary of Reading First in Virginia!

We created this electronic library as a way to keep current on research that makes a difference in our teaching. We are creating a place for bookmarking the best internet sites and articles on aspects of reading that are of interest to us today. Some of the "categories" we have already begun are
  • Basal Readers
  • Phonological Awareness
  • Effective Schools Research
  • Current News Articles
  • Materials created for our reading academies

And there will be many many more as we work together this year!

We hope that these resources will be a benefit for all of us and will keep us talking about issues that we studied in our teacher reading academies. We think this electronic library can even go beyond the whole research issue by giving our readers a chance to ask "why?" when they come across something in an article that causes them to question or to contribute another article to a reading strand that we began. Our combined resources and voices in this spaceless web place are far greater than what can be contained in a real classroom!

You are invited to participate in this library and to read here for your own growth, and even for your coursework.

If you would like to be interactive with the eLibrary (and we invite you to do that!), you can comment on a reading by clicking on the "comment" line that that is under the article link and following the directions that will come up. You can write directly to the Reading First researcher who posted the site or article you are interested in by clicking on his/her name on the link. You can also contribute a reading by giving us the URL to the site you have found that relates to the article you read. The eLibrary webmaster will post your contribution to a category that you indicate.

We look forward to your contributions to the Reading First in Virginia initiative!
