COMING ON FEBRUARY 27
Dear coaches,
Our new website for enrolling in Reading First events in
the state will be open on February 27th.
On that Monday, we will be sending you new log-ins and passwords for
yourself and also for the teachers in your school so that all of you
can access the site. The first event that you will be able to select is
attendance at the Goldenberg Conference in Vienna, Virginia on March
25th. Other events including academies will follow.
As we told you last week, the database is working now but please wait
until the 27th to make any updates to the information about your
teachers.
Watch for the message you will receive on Monday, February 27.
Thank you.

Announcement about the RF Private Site
Dear coaches,
We are writing to keep you updated on the Reading First professional
development website. Our office is in the process of getting ready for
teachers in the state to enroll for all future events sponsored by
Reading First, including summer and academic year academies, workshops
and conferences. Beginning this spring, all events will be managed
through the website---call-in requests and FAXes will not be used. We
are very excited about this new development! To get ready for it, our
programmer is creating a new database that will provide a safer
environment for us.

NEW PROJECT MANAGER FOR READING FIRST IN VIRGINIA
August 28/2005
Hello and welcome back to school!
We want to introduce you all to Dr. Pam Maslin, our new Project
Manager for Reading First in Virginia. Some of you may know Pam already
because she was both an instructor and a site director for academies
this summer and has been an instructor for the McGuffey/TEMPO Reading
Outreach for the past four years. She came to us from James Madison
University, where she was a member of the education faculty. We are so
happy she accepted our job offer!

Reading Academy Placeholders
May, 19/2005
Dear Reading First Coach,
Thank you again for all you have done to make this the easiest year for
academy registration. We appreciate your expertise at moving among the
many features on your private password-protected sites.
Many of you entered “placeholders” in order to save academy slots for
yet-to-be-hired teachers. The system has worked well, but now we do
need, where possible, to add names to these files.
If you do now know the names that match the placeholder slot, please go
into the file that you created (the placeholder’s private site) and
edit the information to reflect the new teacher’s information.
For those of you who cannot attach names by May 27th, please contact
our office so that we know to keep that slot for you if you still need
to reserve it. ***Otherwise, we will DELETE this placeholder from the
registration database***.
Thank you for your help as we head toward the opening of the summer
academy season.
Best,

DELAY IN OPENING OF REGISTRATION SITE
April, 4/2005
Dear Reading First Coach,
Please share this information with your teachers and administrators. We
are delaying the opening of our registration site today until noon.
This is an unexpected delay, caused by high winds interfering with our
internet connections during the night.
We apologize for any inconvenience to your planning, but be assured
that the site will accept registrations this afternoon. We suggest you
come back then!
As always, we are here to help you with your needs any time.
