The May 19th Phonics Workshop in Wytheville is nearly full. Please check enrollment status regularly for cancellations, if you are trying to enroll. We do not have a waiting list. This workshop will be a hands-on learning experience designed for teachers who have already attended a Teacher Reading Academy.

Phonics Workshop in May
We are announcing a Phonics Workshop, a repeat of the one done in Charlottesville in Summer 06, to be held on May 19, 2007 in Wytheville. We have spaces for 125 K-3 teachers who are invited to attend after having completed a Teacher Reading Academy. Enrollment begins on April 2 for Reading First teachers, on April 16 for all others. The workshop is free; lunch will be provided. Please register for an account on our website (see Log In on the front page) to be ready for the enrollment window. We are so happy to be able to bring this workshop to the field.

Spring Semester Credit Course Registration Opens!
Registration for the Spring 2007 section of the UVA web course EDIS 589: Reading First in Virginia:Effective Literacy Instruction in K-3 Classrooms will be open from February 26 to March 26.

Workshop on Comprehension and Vocabulary Instruction
Kevin Flanigan’s last comprehension workshop will be held at the Roanoke Higher Education Center on March 31st. You must have already attended a Teacher Reading Academy to enroll. Fluency and Phonics Workshop (Workshops are open to anyone who has a RF Academy certificate.)
A new workshop on fluency, full of activities that can be used to improve students’ word recognition and fluency skills, will be held in Charlottesville on Saturday, February 3, 2007 (12:30-4 p.m.). This workshop provides hands-on opportunities to apply knowledge gleaned during RF Academies and during Dr. Samuels’ morning Fluency Conference presentation.

Announcing the Strategic Readers Conference
The first Ellery Strategic Readers conference in Williamsburg was a huge success. Although we do not have a waiting list, please be assured that enrollment numbers DO change due to participant cancellations.
