Welcome New Coaches

This past summer, nineteen new schools in the state were awarded Reading First grants. Coaches in these schools are encouraged to call the Reading First professional development office for assistance in accessing our website. The phone number is 877-827-3237 (vareads).

Reading First Follow-up Web Course

Teachers who are interested in earning three hours of graduate credit for their participation in a teacher reading academy may register for the on-line course called "Reading First in Virginia: Effective Literacy Instruction in K-3 Classrooms." The first half of the course requirements are met by attendance at a UVA-sponsored academy. The second half of the course requirements are fulfilled by participating in the 8 week web class scheduled from October 2nd - November 30th.

Fall Academies

We are now scheduling Fall academies for selected sites across the state. Please click here to see the list of sites and information about enrollment.

Certificates

Certificates for successful completion of summer Reading First teacher reading academies will be attached to your personal Reading First account. Before you print your certificate, please make sure that your name is written/spelled as you want it to read on the certificate. Once you print the document, you will not be able to correct the print!

Certificates from Previous Years

Whether you are an old or new user of our website, your My Account page has a link to send us a request for a certificate. An Academy Certificate is a pre-requisite for workshops. Your certificates will remain part of your account and most are downloadable. If you were awarded a certificate in previous years that is not attached to your account, please send us a message.

Reading First Event - Site Registration.

Our website will require site REGISTRATION for anyone wishing to ENROLL for a Reading First event. Please select "registration" on the above menu to create a new account if you are sure you don't already have one! (If you are an RF school, please check with your Coach. You may already have an account!) Once you have created an account, you will be able to see events as they are added and enroll in them online as soon as the enrollment period opens!
