Phonics for the Instructional Reader

A word study/spelling cycle in the reading curriculum looks like this with older children. This is a small group of children working with reading specialist Donna Lewis-Wagner. They are third graders who are working on reading support to strengthen their fluency and ultimately, their power, as readers. A small group of five children spend about twenty minutes each day working with words that their spelling assessment has indicated they need help with. Here, Ms. Lewis-Wagner is supervising two girls who are finishing their word sorting activity.
