Modifications in Monday's lesson:

Added Daily News or Morning Message activity at the beginning of each day to integrate high frequency word work and grammar lessons.
Suggested a daily read-aloud outside the literacy block to reinforce targeted comprehension strategies and to expose students to sustaining comprehension across longer and more challenging texts.
Anthology selection is available on tape for children reading below grade level. If this is independent OR frustrational level text, alternatives are provided during small-group instruction.
Differentiated phonics and spelling instruction in small groups based on PALS 1-3 assessment results and ongoing instruction.
Small-group reading instruction emphasizes fluency, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension development for the students. Targeted comprehension skills/strategies are supported during small-group instruction.
